Technical Advisor, Tonle Sap Projects
WCS is seeking an international Technical Advisor (TA) for its Tonle Sap projects in Cambodia, to support the work of government teams and communities in monitoring and protecting biodiversity across three sites in the Tonle Sap Lake, floodplain and associated wetlands. This is a rewarding post in a well-established conservation program in a fascinating part of the world with exceptional biodiversity. The post is initially for one year, with the expectation of at least one 12 month extension, dependent on funding. Salary is negotiable depending on experience and qualifications. WCS is an equal opportunities employer.
The Tonle Sap Great Lake and floodplain is one of the most important wetlands in mainland South-east Asia for both biodiversity conservation and human livelihoods. The WCS Cambodia Program has three long-running site-based projects in and around the floodplain – in the Prek Toal Core Area of the Biosphere Reserve, at Ang Trapeang Thmor Sarus Crane Reserve and in a network of Integrated Farming and Biodiversity Areas, now known as the Bengal Florican Conservation Areas. At all three sites, WCS works very closely with government agencies to build and implement effective management systems. All three are heavily used by people; whilst some of these uses are compatible with or even beneficial to conservation objectives, others are threats.
The primary role of the advisor will be to oversee WCS activities and give technical inputs relating to the wide diversity of activities that WCS and its partners are involved in, including biodiversity monitoring and protection, conservation-friendly livelihoods programs, and working with communities on natural resource management. A full TOR is posted here. Applications with a CV and cover letter stating salary expectations should be addressed to Mark Gately, Country Director, WCS Cambodia Program and sent by email (mgately(@)wcs.org) to arrive by 27th May 2011.
